Caribbean Voyage
The gorgeous waters of Saint Marten are crystal clear! The water could easily be 18 meters deep and you would still be able to see the sea floor. I couldn’t believe the clarity. If you were to look down from the side of the boat, you could see parrot fish, angel fish, stingray, and turtles. You wouldn’t expect them to be 10m. From sitting on the edge they would seem so close that you could just reach your hand out and touch them.
That doesn’t exclude the waters in Saint Barth’s, Columbier, and Saba. The turquoise waters made it seem like a dream. Not only did I enjoy the beautiful colors of the water but sailing through it was such a thrill. Sitting at the front of the boat with the other people I was staying with, we would periodically get drenched with a wave. It was cold but worth it. After being home for about a month and a half, I feel like my most fond memories, other than scuba diving, were sitting at the front waiting for the next big wave and after dinner.
After dinner, all of us would go up to the top level to talk and jam out to music. It was how we bonded. Playing games like “never have I ever,” “would you rather,” or even just having a simple conversation of what our homes were like brought us together. It was nice that we were all strangers and the way we became a little boat family shows me that if you are respectful and willing to learn something new about other people, your eyes can be opened to so many wonderful experiences and possible life long friends. Sometimes I think about how wonderful the trip was and wish that I could go back for even a moment just feel the joy and bond again.
